Xiaomi YU7 Is Here, and It’s More Than Just a “Bigger SU7”

    Published on:

Fast internet is the invisible gear behind every great setup. PLDT Home takes care of that part, so we can focus on learning about awesome stuff—like Xiaomi’s newest EV!

Xiaomi’s been making waves in the EV world, and their latest launch proves they’re in it for the long haul. Meet the Xiaomi YU7, the brand’s first luxury SUV and a bold follow-up to the sleek SU7 sedan. But this isn’t just a lifted version of what came before — the YU7 is a ground-up redesign that aims to balance high-performance, cutting-edge tech, and premium comfort in one muscular, feature-packed machine.

From its bold proportions and luxe finishes to the futuristic tech inside, the YU7 feels like Xiaomi’s attempt to create something that can hold its own alongside brands like Tesla, BMW, and even Porsche.

It Looks as Good as It Drives

At first glance, the Xiaomi YU7 grabs your attention with its long and low silhouette, sharp body lines, and slick paint finishes. Measuring nearly 5 meters long, with a 3-meter wheelbase, it fits into the mid-to-large SUV category — but every inch of it is designed with intent.

What makes the Xiaomi YU7 really pop are the small design flexes: the largest clamshell aluminum hood on a mass-market SUV, aggressive new headlight vents, flush door handles that respond automatically, and that clean, uninterrupted taillight bar now boasting ultra-red illumination — something you normally see in luxury cars. Xiaomi even spent time engineering airflow through the headlights for both cooling and styling.

Oh, and the color options? Not your usual grayscale lineup. Emerald Green mimics Colombian gemstones with multi-layered paint, Titanium Silver plays with light and shadows for maximum shimmer, and Lava Orange brings a bit of heat — literally borrowed from the SU7.

    A Cabin Designed Around You

Inside, Xiaomi goes all-in on luxury. The YU7 is equipped with what they call a “Dual-Zone Surround Luxury Cabin” — which basically means they tried to make every corner of the interior feel tailored, plush, and spacious.

The Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display steals the show. It’s a sweeping 1.1-meter-wide screen that projects info directly onto the windshield, giving drivers a kind of aircraft-cockpit experience. It’s fully customizable too, showing speed, navigation, music, and more depending on who’s in the car and what’s happening.

Passengers aren’t left out either. The rear seats recline up to 135°, and Xiaomi included dual entertainment displays and an optional massage function for the front seats. Everything you touch is either Nappa leather or soft-touch materials certified safe enough for babies — literally. And with nearly 2,000 liters of storage (including a 141L front trunk), the YU7 was built to be practical for both road trips and grocery runs.

Under the Hood: Power Meets Practicality

Let’s talk performance. The top-spec YU7 Max features dual motors delivering 690 PS (about 680+ horsepower) and does 0–100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds, topping out at 253 km/h. That’s well into sports car territory — but with SUV utility.

This is thanks to Xiaomi’s latest HyperEngine V6s Plus, which uses segmented magnetic steel tech to improve efficiency and performance. Braking is handled by Brembo 4-piston calipers, and a smart air suspension system adjusts ride height and damping across five levels for different road conditions. Think winding mountain roads, rainy Manila commutes, or smooth highway drives — it adapts in real time.

    Range Anxiety? Not a Problem

What makes the Xiaomi YU7 even more compelling is its range. The entry-level version already offers 835 km of range (CLTC), the highest of any electric SUV under 100 kWh. The Pro and Max versions offer 760 km and 770 km, respectively, with all models supporting 800V fast charging. Xiaomi claims it can go from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes, or regain 620 km of range in 15 minutes. That’s nearly unheard of, even among the biggest EV players.

    Safety Isn’t an Afterthought

Xiaomi took a no-compromises approach to safety. The YU7’s body uses a hybrid structure with 90% high-strength steel and aluminum, built around a reinforced armor-cage design. It features everything from embedded roll cages to underbody impact protection and even a military-grade battery coating to resist punctures and debris.

The new ultra-high-strength 2200 MPa steel, co-developed by Xiaomi using AI simulations, has been deployed across door beams and frame structures, dramatically improving collision resistance. In fact, it passed more than 50 crash scenarios, including China’s toughest safety protocols.

Next-Level Tech: Chips, AI, and Sensors Galore

Underneath all the luxury and muscle is one of the most advanced computing platforms on any EV. The car runs on Xiaomi’s updated EEA (Electrical/Electronic Architecture) with a unified “Four-in-One” control unit that manages everything from infotainment to driving assistance.

It uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in the cabin and NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor (a 700 TOPS powerhouse) for assisted driving, bringing in capabilities like real-time AI mapping, high-precision object detection, and blazing-fast app response.

Of course, the Xiaomi YU7 doesn’t skimp on sensors. The car is packed with LiDAR, 4D millimeter-wave radar, 7 high-def cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a full suite of anti-glare lens tech. Translation: safer driving in any weather, clearer visuals, and smarter response to sudden stops or unpredictable conditions.

Driving Is Only Part of the Experience

In addition to offering a vehicle, Xiaomi is investing in the people behind the wheel. The brand now offers an optional advanced driving training program (RMB 1,999) that includes slalom drills, emergency maneuvers, and cornering techniques. It’s a reminder that Xiaomi EVs aren’t just for show — they want their owners to feel empowered and in control behind the wheel.

A New Chapter for Xiaomi EV

The Xiaomi YU7 feels like more than just a new product — it’s a statement. For those looking for a spacious, tech-forward SUV that doesn’t compromise on performance or design, this one checks all the boxes.

While pricing and availability are set to be fully revealed in July, Xiaomi has already started rolling out 1:18 alloy car models of the YU7 in Emerald Green and Titanium Silver — a small but telling nod to the brand’s confidence in its newest flagship ride.
