Bandai Namco just released what could quite possibly be the biggest news drop in gaming this year. They’re working with renowned Writer and Director, Alex Garland, to bring Elden Ring to the Silver Screen as a live-action movie! That’s right, the hit soulslike game of 2022 is getting a live-action adaptation.
From the Controller to the Projector
While we know absolutely nothing about the planned storyline, plot, or even the lead actors, we think this movie might do well. Alex Garland is a great writer and director, producing amazing stories like “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation”. We know fans will want the Elden Ring movie to not shy away from the gory and body-horror aspects that the game is riddled with. If Garland’s works are anything to go off of, you know that he’s got the disturbing and body-horror aspects of film down pat!

There’s a lot to cover in Elden Ring. So it’s going to be a tricky task condensing all the important story points into a movie-format. We’re just hoping they bring in the most iconic bosses like Malenia and King Morgott. It’s unclear if the movie picks up alongside the start of the game or it’ll be a prequel, but there’s a lot riding on its shoulders.
Box-Office Bomb or Geeky Success?
Usually, video game adaptations are incredibly difficult to pull off. You can spend all day listing off the bad ones; not that we’re going to drop any names (Mon***r Hu***r). However, there have been a significant amount of franchises that made it to the live-action screen. Examples being The Last of Us and Fallout having great shows.

It’s hard to say now if we’re actually going to see some success with this franchise adaptation. But knowing the team behind this project, we have nothing but high hopes. There hasn’t been any trailers for this announcement as of late, but we’re hoping it focuses more around our favorite Tarnished rather than be a background lore drop.
Cash Grab or Genuine Gold?
At the end of the day, the movie industry is still an industry. Obviously, the producers and companies behind this film want to make money. However, we can hope that this movie isn’t going to just be slop hidden behind a popular franchise. As fans, it’s always a hope that movie adaptations of franchises we love get the care attention they deserve during production.

It’s hard to say much about the film right now, but we’re waiting with anticipation to see where it goes from here. Be sure to check back in with VRSUS for more info and updates. You can bet that we’ll be watching this project very closely.
