Everything You Need to Know About Veto – Valorant’s First True Anti-Utility Sentinel

    Published on:

Riot Games has officially introduced Veto, the newest Sentinel agent joining Valorant — and he’s built to completely disrupt the rules of engagement. Revealed during the Valorant Champions Paris Grand Finals, Veto brings a fresh kind of defensive power to the game: one that doesn’t just hold sites but shuts down enemy utility altogether.

Empowered by an unstoppable DNA mutation, this Senegalese enforcer thrives on pure combat. On Veto’s battlefield, gunplay is your only guarantee.

Veto releases worldwide on October 7, 2025, marking the start of a new defensive meta for the game.

    The Concept Behind Veto

According to Nicholas Smith, Game Designer at Riot Games, Veto was designed to give defenders a stronger foothold in fights, countering the growing dominance of utility-heavy plays.

“Veto’s kit centers on anti-utility, aiming to give players a stronger foothold on defense. Teams often play for retakes, and while this can be effective, we wanted an agent that can confidently hold ground,” Smith explained.

“His boldness really shines in his ultimate — it’s a moment to play with confidence, even a bit of brashness. You can use him like a traditional defensive Sentinel, or push aggressively to create space and make plays.”

Smith also hinted that Veto will shake up the current meta, forcing teams to rethink how they use their abilities:

“Across all levels of play, sites often become utility-heavy zones. Veto is designed to push back against that. He can tank Brimstone’s ult, eat a Raze rocket, and keep fighting. Even when enemies know he’s ulted, it forces them to change how they engage.”

    Breaking Down Veto’s Abilities

Veto’s kit redefines the Sentinel role, blending lockdown defense with adaptive mobility. Each ability reinforces his anti-utility identity — perfect for players who prefer control through precision and timing.

    Chokehold
EQUIP a viscous fragment of your mutation. FIRE to throw. The fragment deploys on impact, creating a trap that holds enemies in place. Held targets are Deafened and Decayed. (Enemies can destroy the trap before activation.)

    Crosscut
EQUIP a vortex. FIRE to place it on the ground. While in range and looking at the vortex, REACTIVATE to teleport instantly to it. During the Buy Phase, it can be reclaimed and redeployed, allowing for flexible repositioning.

    Interceptor
EQUIP an Interceptor and FIRE to place it. Once active, it destroys enemy utility that bounces or can be destroyed by gunfire — like grenades or drones. Enemies can shoot the device down before activation.

    Evolution (Ultimate)
Instantly fully mutate, gaining a combat stim, regeneration, and total immunity to all debuffs and ability-based damage. You’ll still take bullet and weapon damage (like Jett’s knives or Chamber’s Headhunter), but otherwise, you’re untouchable.

    Dev Note:
When Evolution is active, Veto is immune to all utility for the entire round, making him a fortress during high-pressure fights. He can literally walk through Brimstone’s orbital strike or Raze’s rocket and keep going.

    Unlockable Agent Gear

Players can also earn Veto’s themed items through his Agent contract:

    • Tier 1: Spray – Don’t You Dare
    • Tier 2: Player Card – Valorant Veto
    • Tier 3: Title – Evolved
    • Tier 4: Spray – Negation Ready
    • Tier 5: 2000 Kingdom Credits
    • Tier 6: Gun Buddy – Mutagenesis
    • Tier 7: Spray – Veto Spray
    • Tier 8: Title – Untouchable
    • Tier 9: Player Card – The Deep End
    • Tier 10: Sidearm (Sheriff Skin) – Enforcer

    Skirmish Mode Also Goes Live

Alongside Veto’s release, Riot launched Skirmish, a brand-new 1v1 to 5v5 custom mode featuring a close-quarters map designed for quick fights. No setup time, no waiting — just straight into the action. It’s perfect for practicing duels or testing agents like Veto in faster scenarios.

    Why Veto Changes Everything

With his anti-utility toolkit, teleport repositioning, and full-immortality ultimate, Veto brings something truly new to Valorant. He’s a defender who can fight through chaos instead of hiding from it, creating space, blocking pushes, and punishing ability spam.

Players who enjoy adaptability, strong reads, and holding ground with confidence will find a new favorite in Veto — a Sentinel that’s as bold as he is unbreakable.
