My personal phone is the 13+ 5G, which I’ve been using ever since it came out last year. When the realme 14 5G was announced I was curious to see how much it could improve on the previous model. The 13+ was a reliable daily driver with solid performance, decent camera, and great battery life for the price point. It’s been a few weeks now with the 14 5G, and here’s my honest take.
Design and Display

Out of the box, it has a familiar feel to the 13+, but much more polished. The design is sleeker and more modern with a flatter edge frame. I prefer the matte finish on the back more than the 13+ since it helps keeps fingerprints off. The display is still a 6.6-inch FHD+ panel with 120Hz refresh rate, but it feels snappier compared to my previous 13+, maybe due to better optimization. Colors also seem a bit more vibrant, and outdoor visibility has improved a little. Not a huge jump, but definitely notable from the previous model.
Performance
The new chipset in the 14 5G is a modest performance bump. Apps load quicker, multitasking is smoother, and there’s less stutter when I have tons of tabs open. It pulls its weight and holds up well when you need it to. Same can be said for gaming, as it handles my usual games of Mobile Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile well on medium settings.
Camera

The main camera setup hasn’t changed a lot, but image processing has clearly been refined. Shots from the main cam are sharper with better color, especially in daylight. The 13+ was known for low-light photography, and the 14 is quite decent in that department as well, adding a few improvements in image quality.
Revolution or Evolution?
I enjoyed my time with the 13+ 5G, and am happy to upgrade to the 14. It isn’t a massive leap, but definitely smart refinement with better design, performance, and camera. If you also own a 13+ and its still in good shape, you might be okay holding off another year. If you’re looking for a more polished experience, the 14 delivers and stays well within budget. This is a solid upgrade for budget-conscious users who want a little more polish from their devices.
