A Six-Year Legacy That Defined Competitive Flesh and Blood
The first Battle Hardened event took place on November 8, 2019, at The Games Cube. It was a Welcome to Rathe Sealed event that acted as a warm-up before a Calling. Over the next few years, Battle Hardened would take on many roles. It became the last competitive checkpoint before a major tournament, the final act after a Calling, and eventually a full-featured highlight on the World Tour.

By 2023, the series had evolved into a global pillar. It helped Legend Story Studios support regions that were returning to live events and allowed organizers to grow their local competitive communities. Judges, TOs, and players all found their footing through these tournaments.
More than 180 Battle Hardened events have been held across 29 countries, with the series expected to pass the 200-event mark before its final sunset. It became a proving ground for rising players and a celebration of community growth around the world.
Why Battle Hardened Is Ending
As the World Tour expanded, the Battle Hardened format began to stretch in different directions. The prize structure stayed mostly fixed even as the series started appearing in more varied settings. A Battle Hardened attached to a Calling had different needs from a standalone Battle Hardened inside a convention.
LSS wants clarity for players.
If an event is part of the World Tour, the experience needs to be easy to understand at a glance. That includes the prize pool, the format, and how it contributes to the World Tour Points system.
Starting with Set 18 (PEN), every World Tour stop will now feature a Calling. This simplifies expectations and provides a consistent benchmark for high-level competitive play.
Introducing The Showdown
The retirement of Battle Hardened makes room for a new competitive feature on the World Tour.
Meet the Showdown, a Sunday event that closes each tour stop with a bigger prize pool and a streamlined structure.
The Showdown brings several upgrades:
What Players Can Expect
Format: Silver Age
Structure: Swiss rounds into a Top 8 cut
Prize Pool: USD 5,000

A Final Tribute to Battle Hardened
Although the series is ending, LSS is celebrating its six-year legacy. Throughout January 2026, players can expect participation promos from past Battle Hardened seasons to reappear at various events, serving as a look back at everything the series accomplished.
This marks the official transition from Battle Hardened to Showdown. LSS also hints that more announcements are coming as the 2026 competitive roadmap continues to unfold.
