Guilty Gear -Strive- Surpasses 3.5 Million Players as Cyberpunk: Edgerunner’s Lucy Joins the Fight This August

    Published on:

Guilty Gear -Strive- continues to fire on all cylinders as Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia and Arc System Works officially confirm that the game has surpassed 3.5 million players worldwide. To celebrate, they’re introducing a new DLC character to Season Pass 4: Lucy, a long-range cyberpunk fighter whose hacking-based gameplay adds a new twist to the roster.

Meet Lucy: The Cybernetic Assassin with a Hidden Past

Arriving August 21, 2025, Lucy is a high-mobility combatant who specializes in controlling space and applying pressure using her monowire and digital debuffs. Her kit thrives in neutral play, but what sets her apart is her ability to hack enemies mid-fight, disrupting rhythm and forcing difficult decisions from her opponents.

Lore-wise, Lucy hails from Night City, a chaotic techno-metropolis where data is more valuable than life. She’s a netrunner—one of the elite hackers capable of deep dives into digital realms. But a recent mission into the Net took an unexpected turn, and now she’s here, armed with answers only she understands.

Lucy is part of Season Pass 4 alongside Queen Dizzy, Venom, and Unika. Like the other characters, she comes with new colors, a themed stage, and premium visuals for collectors.

Big Changes Coming: Ranked Mode, Balance Updates, and Version 2.00

The August 21 update won’t stop at Lucy.

Guilty Gear -Strive- will officially introduce Ranked Match, a long-awaited competitive mode where players can climb the ranks to reach the new top tier: Vanquisher. This marks a huge shift for those looking to test their skills against similarly matched fighters in a global ladder format.

A major battle balance update is also coming, and Arc System Works has already confirmed that Version 2.00—a massive overhaul launching with Season 5—is now in development for a 2026 release.

A Five-Year Legacy with No Signs of Slowing Down

Since its launch, Guilty Gear -Strive- has redefined the 2.5D fighting game genre with its crisp animation, tight mechanics, and bold character designs. As a show of appreciation to the fans, the team also released a celebratory illustration by series artist Abe Daimon to mark the 3.5 million player milestone.

With five years under its belt and a growing player base, Strive is evolving again, bringing fresh modes, new characters, and more content in the years ahead. For those just joining or returning to the fray, now’s a perfect time to jump back in.
