Are you in the market for a brand new laptop? If so, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition may be the one for you! We got to try the latest release from Lenovo, and here are our thoughts.
Screen Resolution and Graphics
For most people, the screen resolution and definition can either make or break a laptop for them. In this case, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura comes with a 15.3″ 2.8k LCD panel with up to 120Hz refresh rate. While it’s not as bright as other laptops with an OLED screen, it was bright enough at 500 nits. It’s a glossy screen so in my book, it’s already a winner. The touch sensitive screen plays very well into productivity as well.
The screen resolution is great for me at 2880 x 1800, considering the fact that it’s an IPS panel. You can watch movies in stunning HD and play some games at high graphics. While I’m not too jazzed about it coming with an IPS screen instead of an OLED, it’s not a major deal breaker for me. I have heard that there are speculations that Lenovo intends to release another version of this laptop with an OLED panel.
Build and Feel
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura has got to be one of the slimmest laptops I have ever used. The entire build is comfortably light at 3.4Lbs. This is about the same weight as the MacBook Air 15. This weight means it’s incredibly portable and won’t strain your shoulders when placed in a laptop bag or backpack.
Another build quality I noticed was the hinge being tight and secure. It makes it a bit difficult to open the laptop with one hand, but you don’t get any flimsy screen flipping while carrying it around making it feel incredibly solid.
It’s a sleek and attractive machine, with a clean exterior panel. The Luna Grey colorway gives a clean appearance, though a bit on the industrial side. I like having a muted aesthetic for my gear.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard was a joy to use. It was clicky and gave nice feedback with every keystroke but wasn’t crazy loud like other keyboards out there. Personally, Lenovo has one of the best laptop keyboards out on the market to date and the Aura isn’t skipping out. The matte coating of the keys made touch typing easier and didn’t make my hands feel oily after prolonged use. Overall, one of the best laptop keyboards I’ve used.
The Touchpad on the Aura was far better than other touchpads I’ve used in the past. It was smooth and precise and it felt nice when clicked.
Ports and Plugs
People who like to plug a million peripherals into their laptops (me) rejoice! the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura comes with 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports on both sides, a USB 3.2 gen 1 port, an HDMI 2.1 port that supports a 4k display, and an Audio Combo Jack. While I do wish there were more USB ports, it’s not bad considering how slim the device is.
Performance
For such a slim laptop, it performed better than I thought it would. I was able to play League of Legends at Ultra graphics and still get more than 100fps consistently. I tested it with a few sessions of video editing and rendering and it performed decently well. It is running an Intel Core Ultra 7 so expect snappy and responsive usage when doing single core tasks. Graphics wise, the laptop has very good integrated graphics. It lets you play less demanding games like League of Legends or Hades, and can even run some high demanding games at lower graphics.
If you’re looking for is a productivity laptop, then this is the laptop for you. Video editing, graphic design, and other single core tasks feel responsive and fast. I quite like this laptop as an everyday work driver but I would leave the heavier tasks to a dedicated PC. It does win out over other laptops at 32gb internal memory but it’s not upgradable.
The speakers and mic on this laptop could be better. While the speakers are alright, they’re not one I’d expect for a laptop at this price point. The mic on the other hand had a tendency to sound a little muffled, even in a relatively quiet room. The 1080p webcam was adequate and it’s personally alright for an integrated camera.
In terms of thermals and fan noise, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura performed exceptionally well! Despite working on it for hours, it remained cool to the touch and the fan noise was barely noticeable. Lenovo did well in designing the inner thermals and cooling system.
Battery life
The battery on this laptop is a big plus, having over 22 hours of use. Though at heavier usage it dips a little, it still holds up a reasonable amount. It’s a great laptop for using on short trips without needing to run for an outlet.
Overall thoughts
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition is a very good productivity device. Overall, I would rate this laptop as something you’d be happy to get for its SRP of Php 96,000. It’s light, portable, sleek in design, and works very well as a productivity driver wherever you go. If you’re looking for an everyday laptop that’s reliable and snappy, this is the one for you.
