PlayStation’s June 2025 State of Play was packed with surprises, remakes, and long-awaited updates. While it didn’t have the same blockbuster energy as some of the Summer Game Fest reveals, it delivered in its own way, especially for RPG fans and PlayStation veterans who’ve been waiting for something familiar with a new twist.

Here are the games that got us talking the most.
Final Fantasy Tactics Remake

Let’s be honest—this was the mic drop. After years of rumors, Final Fantasy Tactics is officially getting the full remake treatment. The visual upgrade leans heavily into the HD-2D style seen in Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, but with a darker, more grounded tone that suits Ivalice’s war-torn narrative. For longtime fans, it’s a dream come true. For newcomers, this might be one of the best ways to get into the tactical RPG genre.

Expect updated mechanics, quality-of-life improvements, and full voice acting for key scenes. It’s not just a nostalgia trip—it looks like a full reimagining worthy of the Tactics legacy.
007: First Light

This one came out of nowhere at the PlayStation State of Play, but 007: First Light might be one of the boldest directions the Bond series has taken in years. You don’t play as James Bond. You play as someone who will become Bond. It’s a stealth-driven origin story set in the Cold War, filled with espionage, gadgetry, and globe-hopping missions that harken back to classic spy thrillers.

The vibe is more Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy than GoldenEye, with a slower pace and heavier emphasis on infiltration and narrative choices. It might not be for every action fan, but as a fresh reboot of the franchise, it has our full attention.
Nioh 3

Team Ninja’s back—and this time, it looks like they’re going all in on next-gen polish. Nioh 3 keeps the punishing combat that defined the series but introduces a new semi-open world structure and a dual-protagonist system where you switch between a samurai and a yokai-possessed ninja.

New stances, new weapons, and a revamped enemy AI system were teased. If you’ve been craving something more action-heavy than Elden Ring but still love deep combat mechanics, Nioh 3 looks like it could scratch that itch hard.
Lumines Arise

Yep, Lumines is back—and somehow, it looks more stylish than ever. Lumines Arise isn’t just another puzzle game revival. It’s a music-driven visual experience with live remix battles, online co-op, and new EDM-curated soundtracks from international DJs.

It’s still the same core gameplay—match falling blocks to the beat—but now you can sync up with others in real time, and the game evolves based on your rhythm. If you’ve got even a shred of love for puzzle games, this one deserves a spot on your radar.
No Shortage of Surprises
While Astro Bot Rescue Team 2, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Until Dawn Remastered also got screen time at the Playstation State of Play, the real stars of the show were the risk-takers and rebirths. Final Fantasy Tactics Remake alone could carry a showcase, but pairing it with the likes of Nioh 3 and 007: First Light gave this State of Play a strong identity—one that leaned more into thoughtful, curated experiences than blockbuster chaos.
If this is the direction PlayStation’s going for the rest of the year, we’re all in.
