Earlier this month, Disney transformed SM North EDSA Annex Atrium into a glowing tribute to TRON: Ares, celebrating the film’s theatrical release with one of the most striking movie activations of the year.

From October 9 to 12, fans stepped into a real-world version of the Grid — complete with futuristic photo walls and the franchise’s legendary Light Cycle as the centerpiece. The display gave moviegoers a rare chance to experience what it felt like to stand inside TRON’s neon-lit universe, just as the new film hit cinemas nationwide.
A New Chapter for TRON
Now showing across the Philippines, TRON: Ares marks Disney’s bold return to one of its most iconic sci-fi franchises. The film dives deeper into the tension between technology and humanity, exploring what happens when artificial intelligence crosses into the real world.
Directed by Oscar® nominee Joachim Rønning, the movie redefines the TRON legacy with a blend of sleek visuals and emotional storytelling.
“The bar was really high,” Rønning shared. “I wanted to design something new but familiar. What drew me to the project was the mix of the digital and real worlds. Having a Program exist in the real world was interesting for me — I hadn’t seen that before. And the idea of Ares finding out what it means to be human was fascinating.”
Humanity Meets the Grid
Leading the cast is Jared Leto as Ares — a sentient program on a mission to understand what it means to be human.
“I’m a TRON super fan,” Leto said. “It captured my imagination and showed me a world I never imagined before. It was this combination of technology and creativity that really attracted me.”
The ensemble cast also includes Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, and Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena, joined by Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, and Jeff Bridges, who returns as Kevin Flynn.
From the Grid to the Big Screen
TRON: Ares continues the franchise’s tradition of neon-soaked visuals, high-speed chases, and philosophical depth — blending its digital aesthetic with a timely story about artificial intelligence and identity.

The SM North EDSA Light Cycle display may have wrapped up, but for those who visited, it was a fitting reminder of how TRON’s world-building still captures imaginations decades later.
TRON: Ares is now showing in cinemas nationwide — best experienced in IMAX and 4DX for the full immersion into the Grid.
